The communities around Novartis are the lifeblood of our organization-- they are where our employees live, work and raise their families; they maintain the infrastructure so that our operations function smoothly; and they provide the support network of family, friends, neighbors and institutions that are essential to a high quality of life that we all deserve. For all that the community and its people provide Novartis, we feel it is our commitment and responsibility to give back and support them in various ways.
The company and its employees support local communities through both volunteerism and philanthropic activities. Since our employees feel passionate about where they live and work, they generously devote their time and effort to help these communities. Novartis fully backs them in these efforts, by providing financial support to organizations where our employees volunteer, as well as working with employees to ensure that they have the time, the resources and the energy to give back in a meaningful way.
Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation is committed to developing meaningful partnerships with non-profit organizations that are dedicated to enhancing quality of life, recognize the interests of our employees, and address significant social issues related to health, education and civic engagement in the communities where Novartis operates. We also contribute financially to support the local community because we believe this is consistent with our mission to improve the lives of those around us. Our financial support focuses on initiatives that raise awareness of health issues, which is of central concern to us at Novartis.
At the same time, we want to give everyone in our local communities the chance and opportunity to succeed, and so we support science, math and technology educational initiatives, as well as civic and community development programs. In each of these areas, we strive to support underserved populations. We also encourage our employees to contribute financially to the local community through workplace giving campaigns like the United Way and our matching gifts program.
Through volunteerism, donations and partnerships, we aim to weave ourselves into the fabric of our communities --helping to sustain and improve them in every way we can.
Our philanthropic contributions include annual grants to nonprofit organizations that are tax exempt in accordance with section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Â Philanthropic grants support programs focused upon underserved populations promoting health and disease state awareness, science, math and technology education, and civic and community development initiatives. Between 2006 and 2007, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation awarded over USD 4 million to nonprofit organizations.
